Court Bailiffs Licensing and Disciplinary Committee Holds Inaugural Meeting

On Monday August 15, 2022, the Court Bailiffs Licensing and Disciplinary Committee met for the first time to discuss how it will conduct business following the launch of new Rules of Procedure for Court Bailiffs by the Chief Justice.
The meeting, was chaired by HW Bareebe Rosemary, Registrar High Court, on behalf of the Chief Registrar. Members present included the Inspector of Courts, HW Amos Kwizera, Deputy Registrar, Magistrates Affairs and Data Management, HW James Ereemye Mawanda Jumire and HW Timothy Lumunye, the Personal Assistant to the Chief Registrar. The other members present were Uganda Law Society Chief Executive Officer, Mr Moses Okwalinga and Mr Brian Kanyesigye, President of the Uganda Court Bailiffs Association.
On the Committee's mandate, HW Ayebare Tumwebaze, said the Committee's responsibilities included issuing inspection forms and conducting physical inspections of court bailiffs. He went on to outline the steps taken by the Committee to address the complaints registered, including sending out hearing notices, holding committee meetings, and preparing for investigations and trials.
The Committee agreed on best practices for improved performance.
